El Médano is one of the most distinctive vacation destinations in Tenerife: a former fishing village in the municipality of Granadilla de Abona that has become the European capital of windsurfing and kitesurfing thanks to its constant trade winds. Its guests are different from the rest of the southern tourist coast: international surfers returning each season, remote workers on long stays, families looking for accessible beaches, and mid-budget backpackers.

For owners, that demand translated into vacation rental has one differential feature: stays are longer than average (a week or more is common) and guests spend long hours on the beach. This simplifies some aspects (less turnover) but demands others very specific: management of the fine sand that comes in with every beach visit, optional mid-stay cleaning for long stays, and extra maintenance of outdoor furniture permanently exposed to the wind.
