About El Médano

El Médano sits on the south-east coast of Tenerife, within the municipality of Granadilla de Abona, only 8 minutes by car from Tenerife South Airport. That airport proximity, combined with its alternative personality, makes it a regular stop for travellers who land and want the sea immediately without going through the resort area.

Its geography is marked by Montaña Roja, a 171-metre coastal volcanic cone declared a Special Natural Reserve, and by Playa de El Médano, the largest natural blonde-sand beach in Tenerife (over 2 km), undeveloped and with almost constant winds that turned it into the world windsurf epicentre from the eighties on. Each year El Médano hosts windsurf and kitesurf world championships.

The town keeps its village structure: pedestrian streets next to the sea, central plaza with terraces, morning fish market. The gastronomy is quite distinct from Costa Adeje — more informal, larger presence of vegetarian, vegan and fusion cuisine, surfer bars and local-producer proposals.

Property types — El Médano

El Médano combines an old town with small character-rich properties and several modern residential areas around. The most common type is 1-2 bedroom apartments in low-rise buildings with terraces facing the sea or Montaña Roja, rented by the week. There are also abundant small studios in the village core, ideal for solo surfers or couples.

In the upper area towards La Tejita and in the residential extension, standalone houses and duplexes appear with gardens and occasionally a shared pool. The difference with Costa Adeje is clear: here the guest does not look for hotel luxury, they look for authenticity and beach proximity. Cleaning must be impeccable, but protocols can be adjusted to the guest type (more utilitarian, less premium amenities display).

Fine sand everywhere. Playa de El Médano is made of very fine blonde sand that sticks to skin, finds its way into clothes and comes in with every guest. We deep-vacuum skirting boards, mats, sofas, terraces and walkways at every check-in cleaning. For long stays we recommend optional mid-stay cleaning.
Constant trade wind. El Médano has wind practically every day of the year. This causes accumulation of dust and sand on terraces, outdoor furniture, window frames and unprotected areas. We reinforce outdoor cleaning at every turnover and inspect awnings, parasols and light furniture for wear before they get blown away.
Salt residue in coastal area. Properties close to the beach receive sea aerosol that rusts hinges, dirties glass and leaves marks on aluminium or wrought iron furniture. We use specific products on every deep clean and inspect metal elements periodically.
Long stays, different guest profile. In El Médano, 7, 14 or more day reservations are common. This means higher kitchen use (more deep cleaning of oven, microwave, fridge), more linen and towels per stay, and the need for optional mid-stay cleaning for two-week or longer stays.
Surf equipment. Many guests bring windsurf boards, kitesurf gear, wetsuits and neoprenes. It is common to find salty sand and seawater residues in outdoor showers, terraces and gear-loading zones. We include these points in the protocol.
